Party Rock.

Metro Bar | 9/29

On bicycle theft.

This was how I found my faithful companion Thursday morning when I left for work.

Naturally, my response went from shocked to infuriated to sad and back around again. I was so upset that I cried right there on the sidewalk. Sure, you can say that I had it coming by leaving her outside overnight or by only locking my front wheel and frame, but neither of those things woud change the fact that someone was shitty enough to take something that didn't belong to them. What in the hell someone else would want with a single scratched rim, nearly bald tire and a few girly spoke cards is beyond me, but it was MY scratched rim, bald tire and spoke cards.

A lot of non-cyclists tend to have a hard time understanding the bond that forms between a cyclist and their bike. It wasn't just someone taking a wheel that can easily be replaced, it was a violation. My bike has been with me through some of the roughest and happiest times in my life. She's always there, ready to take away my stress or to make my good mood just a little bit better. She pushes me to test my limits and gives me the greatest feelings of accomplishment when I look back and say "I did that?!".  I trust her with my life everyday and in turn give her all of the respect she needs.

So you see, it's a personal insult. Luckily a great friend came to my rescue almost immediately and is loaning me an extra wheel of his to use until I buy another one. I know there is zero chance of finding out who did this and they better pray that I don't.

Lock thy steads ladies and gentlemen! Protect your investments and companions. You can't control the scumbugs, but you can sure as hell try.

Moab round one.

I'm back in the city of Salt after three days of water, red sand and intense sunshine. I think I fell in love with southern Utah on this trip. I could never live there, but I will definitely make it a top priority to explore as much of it as I can in my lifetime. Amazing landscape, perfect weather, loads of vegan food, delicious beers, the best coffee I've ever had and adrenaline rushes abounding. . it's the perfect place to get away to for awhile. The photos are trickling in and I have two rolls of film from my fisheye to develop but here is what I have from my phone:

Trying hard to smile at 7:00 AM.

Alcachofa.

I spent my night watching Halloween, drinking boxed wine and half assedly packing/making food for vacation. Have you ever noticed how dark Halloween is? I'm not talking the plot here, I mean that 75% of that movie is literally shot in dark houses without any lights on. By the end of the movie I had a headache from straining my eyes on my 40 inch tube TV (and surely not from the $10 box of wine).

Anyway. Artichokes were on sale for $.75 the other day at Winco. They're normally $3 A PIECE at Smith's, so after I picked my jaw up off the floor I purchased a handful of them. For dinner last night I steamed one and dipped the leaves in a garlic aioli and chipotle honey mustard sauce. The intention of this post was to share the recipes for the sauces but I just realized that I forgot the quantities, which are usually an important part of a recipe. So, instead you can look at these arty photos of my artichoke.

Back from hiatus!

Boy, what a summer it has been. I've noticed that I seem to disappear from blogging when the weather warms up and return when it cools down. Summer is my favorite and there is just too much going on to stay on top of it all. Without further adieu, here's the summer recap:

* Moved, again. Not my fault this time! I now live alone in the cutest apartment in the Piccadilly and I am much, much happier.
* Finally went camping and hiking in Utah, not once but three times!
* Switched from yoga to Pilates and stuck with it.
* Made lots of new friends, drank lots of booze in pretty places, did lots of biking, had great culinary successes, attended many bbqs and dance parties and finally figured out what Snoop and everyone else on the planet have found so appealing about a certain species of plant. It was a crazy summer and I have too many insane stories.

This weekend my family is taking our first vacation in years and will be visiting the desert in southern Utah. We're going white water rafting on the Colorado River and hiking at Arches National Park. I'm beyond excited because I haven't been south since living in the state and the landscape down there is just breathtaking. There's also a pretty significant surprise in the works but I can't spoil it.

I don't have Internet in my new apartment yet and apparently my paranoid schizophrenic and mullet wielding neighbors aren't too keen on sharing, so I'm still working that out. However, I'm ready to start blogging again so get ready, ya'll and enjoy these random photos:
